Why Should I Pressure Wash My Driveway?

There are a number of reasons why power washing your driveway is valuable. We’ll give you 6 of those reasons below.

  1. Moss, algae and mildew removal. Have you seen when concrete, bricks or stone have turned a greenish color? Perhaps it was on your neighbor’s driveway, or even your own. This occurs when moss, algae and mildew begin to grow. At best, the area looks unsightly. At worst, it can become a hazard. If the moss, algae, or mildew is left unchecked, the area can become extremely slick. This creates a fall hazard for anyone walking along the area. Proper pressure washing techniques can be used to quickly and efficiently remove the infected area. Not only will it remove any slick debris, but the discoloration will disappear as well, leaving your concrete, asphalt, brick or stone driveway looking as good as new.

  2. Weed mitigation. Most driveways have natural cracks throughout. These cracks could be where two bricks join together, where one stone ends and another begins, or where the concrete expansion joint was placed. In all cases, weeds have the ability to make their way into these tiny spaces. In time, they will begin to grow, sprouting through the surface of your driveway. It can look unsightly if not resolved. Even worse, the weeds can cause the cracks to expand and the surrounding materials to deteriorate. This may decrease the lifespan of your driveway. Pressure washing can remove these weeds before they become too big of a nuisance to your property and you.

  3. Grease, oil and stain removal. As much as you may try to avoid grease, oil and other stains, the reality is that they do happen. Oil can leak from a car; carbon from black mulch can get smeared; grease from a grill can splatter all over the ground. In each case, power washing the surface can remove these eye-sores, restoring a clean and fresh look.

  4. Sealing and refinishing preparation. Whether you are sealing your driveway for the first time or a subsequent time, you will want to pressure wash the surface first. If the driveway is left unwashed before the procedure, then stains, moss, and other unsightly imperfections may be captured in the sealing process as well.

  5. Curb appeal. Your home is likely one of the biggest investments you have made, so why not keep it looking nice? Even if you’re not looking to sell, keeping the home in good condition will help the home last longer, and make it easier to prepare to sell when the time comes. It also keeps the HOA at bay. A periodic pressure wash of your driveway can rejuvenate the look of the yard and home exterior.

  6. Increased longevity. If not for any other reason, increasing the longevity of your home is a key reason to power wash. Oil, dirt, weeds, algae - all of these materials can decrease the lifespan of your driveway. Stone, asphalt, brick or concrete - each and every material is subject to increased deterioration when not properly cared for. Replacing a driveway will cost thousands of dollars. By extending the lifetime of your driveway, you literally save thousands of dollars that you can use for other items or experiences.
